English Graduate Academic Mentor
As an English graduate academic mentor you will be supporting alongside the English department teachers, helping with some planning and assessment, giving you a great insight in to teaching.
Your role will consist of supporting students in class, on occasion you will be given a small group to give bespoke mentoring towards. The experience you gain from this role will be vital in allowing you to make the final decision as to whether teaching is right for you. It will also be a great opportunity to build the knowledge and skills ready to take the first step towards a rewarding career within education.
The majority of learners you will support will be KS4 and KS5, both GCSE students and A Level students. After your year as an English graduate academic mentor you will be in an excellent position to decide on the teacher training path which is right for you, including whether to train to teach via the school’s own school teacher training programme.
For this role you must be a high-achieving, determined English graduate with at least a 2.1 degree. You must also possess the confidence and desire to work within education, supporting learners to achieve their potential. This role will be very rewarding for an aspiring teacher, not only will you gain invaluable experience, you will also know after every working day that you have truly made a difference in the lives of a number of children of whom you have been supporting.
