Graduate Learning Mentor

  • Full-time Graduate Learning Mentor role
  • Graduate role – 2:1 or above required
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with young people essential
  • A good understanding of barriers to education highly desirable
  • Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups
  • Luton-based secondary school
  • Earn £300-£350 per week
  • Starting ASAP for the rest of the academic year

The role

As a Graduate Learning Mentor you will work specifically with pupils experiencing barriers to education and listen to them in order to work out ways to break these down.  You will offer support and guidance to pupils having difficulty with their learning and work in small groups or 1:1 to boost progress. Pupils may have social, emotional or behavioural difficulties affecting their ability to learn. You will implement strategies to boost pupils’ self-esteem and confidence in their learning and work in line with agreed plans of action to ensure pupils achieve their potential.

About you

You will be a graduate (2:1) or above with good GCSEs and A levels.  Previous experience working with young people is highly desirable and a good understanding of barriers to education is essential.  Psychology graduates are encouraged to apply.  A non-judgemental attitude is key and a solutions-based approach welcomed.  The ability to relate to young people and establish trust quickly will be needed as well as the capacity to act as a role model to motivate pupils.
