Graduate Primary SEN Teaching Assistant – The Role:

According to a recent Ofsted report it was recorded that the inclusion department operated very effectively and pupil progress was at the very least in line with the national average. Not only this, it was stated that the relationship between staff and students is very strong making it a very positive environment for pupil learning and a place where the staff want to teach.

As a result, this opportunity is perfect for an aspiring teacher because not only will you be able to teach in a warm and welcoming environment, which will help ease you into a career in teaching, but you will have the opportunity to work closely with a very talented inclusion department as recognised by Ofsted. Your main responsibilities as a SEN teaching assistant will be first of all to shadow the SENDCo who will provide you with a thorough insight into this department and explain its main functions. Additionally this role entails preparing and delivering your own intervention sessions on a 1:1 or small group basis, catering to a wide range of special educational needs with the guidance of the SENDCo where you will learn and develop as an aspiring teacher!

 

Graduate Primary SEN Teaching Assistant – Person Specification:

  • 2.1 or 1st class degree (preferably psychology)
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills
  • Previous work with children is desirable
  • Supportive and inspiring personality
  • Patient and empathetic mentality is crucial
  • For an individual aspiring to become a teacher prior to teaching courses
  • Passionate about education
  • Firm but fair behaviour management approach
