Teaching Assistant Special Educational Needs – Graduate role

Are you a recent graduate keen to gain experience in a school based setting prior to embarking on your educational psychology or teacher training course?

Maybe you are a highly academic graduate, who has significant theoretical knowledge, but maybe lacks significant experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs?

Perhaps you have previous experience supporting children with SEN in another context and would like to extend this experience into a school based setting?

This larger than average sized primary school in Barnet are looking to appoint a patient and nurturing graduate to join their inclusion team as an SEN Teaching Assistant, working alongside an experienced SENCo, supporting SEN children on a 1:1 and small group basis with day-to-day learning and specific intervention strategies, to ensure they are able to stay in a mainstream school setting.

To be considered for this SEN Teaching Assistant role you must have achieved a 2:1 or a 1st in your Psychology or core subject degree, preferably from a Russell Group University. You must be able to demonstrate how your previous experience, not necessarily in a school-based setting, is transferable into supporting SEN  children, and have a clear passion for education and supporting children to achieve their potential. You will need to be able to demonstrate experience of working with young people in both a group and 1:1 setting.

In this exciting role you will be an integral part of the schools SEN and inclusion team supporting the SENCO and other experienced SEN practitioners, to implement specific behaviour and academic strategies to support the children’s personal and academic development. These strategies will be delivered on a 1:1 and small group basis. You will be key to the schools intervention strategy to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for all children at the school. You will liaise with parents so good communication skills are key to effective reporting and improvement.

The school has an excellent reputation for its SEN offering and its development of SEN children. The school has higher than average numbers of children with SEN and you will be an integral part the inclusion team which supports them.
