English Teaching Assistant

If you are considering a career in teaching and feel that long-term, paid experience in the same school is the ideal stepping stone to give you the insight into the wonderful world of teaching prior to teacher training, then this role is for you!

We are working with a wonderful Birmingham based secondary that are searching for the ideal graduate to add to their support team.

  • English Teaching Assistant
  • £60 – £65 per day

  • English Language or Literature considered, minimum 2:1 with strong A Levels

If you’ve recently graduated with an English based degree and you’ve ever considered working in education, this could be the role you’ve been looking for. This English Teaching Assistant role will give you paid school-based experience which will enable you to enhance and develop your skills and knowledge of education. You will be in a role where you can put your English knowledge to good use – helping young people to grasp key concepts within English and helping them to succeed.

As a English Teaching Assistant you will be supporting English Teachers, contributing your ideas to planning sessions as well as getting the lab classrooms ready for practical lessons. You will also be responsible for holding small group intervention sessions whereby you will work with children from Year 7 all the way up to Year 13. Each intervention session will be different in order to meet each child’s individual needs. Year 7 students may need support due to them struggling to settle in to their new classes, whilst Year 11’s will require support to meet their expected level in their GCSEs.

You should be a recent graduate with a degree classification of at least a 2.1 in any English specialism. You should also be a confident individual who is looking at the possibility of one day becoming an English Teacher, but would like to gain experience within a school for this academic year first.
