While secondary school teacher training isn’t without its challenges, it’s an incredibly rewarding experience to become a part of one of the most important journeys in a young person’s life. In secondary school (ages 11-16), children start to understand who they are, what their hobbies and interests are, and what they want in life. Being their teacher gives you the privilege of helping them navigate this while you provide them, through fantastic teaching, with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed at whatever they put their minds to. You’re also in a unique position to share your subject passions; the curiosity and excitement you instil in your students could very well inspire future leaders and innovators in your field. Now that is worth it!
Maths Graduate Secondary School Teacher Training – The Programme
- You’ll attend a 2 Week Summer School in August to learn about the programme, educational theory, and practice so you feel confident before you start in September.
- You’ll be based in a school of your choice from day one, spending the whole academic year watching your students progress.
- You’ll have your own Teacher Training tutor and continuous support throughout your training year and beyond, including an in-school coach and weekly training sessions.
- At the end of your training year, you’ll have achieved a QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) in your chosen teaching subject.
- After successfully completing your training year you can progress onto a highly supportive, tailored ECT (early career teacher) programme.
Maths Graduate Secondary School Teacher Training – Your Eligibility
- Have the right to live and work in the UK for at least the next 3 years
- Have a grade C or above in Maths and English language GCSE
- Hold a undergraduate Bachelor’s degree prior to beginning your Initial Teacher Training
- Have a STEM degree or A level in a related subject
- Not currently hold Qualified Teacher Status
